Mt Meru Climb

Mt Meru – 4 Day Climb

Tour overview

Venture on a 4-day journey to Mt. Meru and immerse yourself in stunning vistas and picturesque trails, perfect for nature enthusiasts. As Tanzania’s second-highest mountain, it demands more technical expertise than Kilimanjaro.

Tour details & Itinerary

At 4,566 meters tall, Mt. Meru is the fifth-highest mountain in Africa and stands as the second-highest peak in Tanzania. A massive volcanic eruption around 250,000 years ago dramatically changed the mountain’s landscape, wiping out its entire eastern flank and giving it its unique shape today.

Climbing Mt. Meru takes you through various vegetation zones, starting from the dry forests at the base, moving through dense mountain rainforests, then scrublands, and finally reaching alpine terrain near the summit. As the vegetation changes, so does the wildlife. During the climb, you might encounter various large animals, such as giraffes, buffaloes, baboons, colobus monkeys, and antelopes.

For safety reasons, you must have an armed park ranger with you throughout the four-day ascent of Mt. Meru.

Important Note: The final ascent segment entails several straightforward, unguarded climbing sections. It’s imperative to possess a strong tolerance for heights and sure-footedness. The park ranger can cancel a summit attempt in inclement weather conditions like heavy rain, icy surfaces, or dense fog. We strongly discourage attempting to climb Mount Meru during the rainy season in April and May.
