The Ngorongoro Crater, an awe-inspiring natural marvel, boasts a vast and intact volcanic caldera, distinguishing it as the planet’s largest unbroken and non-submerged caldera. Spanning over 102 square miles (264 square kilometers), this geological wonder is encircled by a rim that rises approximately 2,000 feet (610 meters) above the caldera’s floor, with the highest peak in the vicinity soaring to 7,500 feet (2,286 meters).

This extraordinary landscape was formed by a volcanic eruption, creating a unique habitat for various wildlife. The Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority has put in place measures to ensure the safety of visitors, including trained guides, well-maintained trails, and emergency response systems.

In 2013, the Ngorongoro Crater was officially declared one of the world’s seven natural wonders. It is often called Africa’s Garden of Eden and is home to over 30,000 animal species, including wildebeests, buffaloes, elephants, lions, cheetahs, and the rare black rhino.

This area also has a rich human history, with remains of early human ancestors dating back millions of years. The famous Laetoli footprints, believed to be around 3.5 million years old, were discovered here, adding to the wonder and intrigue of the site.
