Upon reaching the summit crater, visitors are treated to breathtaking panoramas. The salt base of Lake Natron extends northward, adorned by the vibrant pink hue of flamingos inhabiting the area. In the distance, the border of Kenya looms. To the east, the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro captivates the gaze. Lush forested hills and steep escarpments characterize the western scenery, forming part of the Great African Rift Valley’s western slopes. To the south lies the breathtaking Crater Highlands of Ngorongoro, renowned as a premier destination for wildlife conservation in Africa.
4 Days
After an early morning breakfast, we will leave Moshi or Arusha city and head to Lake Natron campsite, which will take approximately seven hours. Upon arrival, you can freshen up at the camp before visiting the stunning NgareSero Waterfalls west of Lake Natron Nguruman Escarpment. Later, we will return to the centre for dinner and spend the night there.
After breakfast, you'll leave camp and head to Lake Natron, which is an alkaline lake and the leading breeding site for Lesser Flamingoes. Nearly three-quarters of the world's flamingo population call this place home. After exploring Lake Natron, you'll return to camp to rest before beginning the trek up the mountain around midnight.
Keep in mind the following information. You will begin your climb to Ol Doinyo Lengai Mountain at midnight, and it will take about six hours to reach the peak. You'll arrive just in time to witness the breathtaking sunrise casting its light over the Great Rift Valley. Throughout your trek, you'll be accompanied by a knowledgeable Maasai guide. After enjoying the stunning views from the peak, you'll descend the mountain and meet your driver for a transfer back to camp to freshen up and rest. Later, we'll drive back to Arusha or Moshi City via Ngare Sero Maasai village, where you can explore the Maasai bomas and immerse yourself in their way of life.
